Installation Instructions for T-Connector Adapter for KIA Sportage

• Trim Panel Remover
• 10mm Socket & Ratchet or 10mm Wrench
• Drill (3/32” Drill Bit)

Step-by-Step Instructions:

1. Prepare the Vehicle:

   • Disconnect the negative battery terminal to isolate the electrical system.
   • Open the rear hatch and remove two screws securing the driver-side taillight assembly.
   • Pull the taillight housing directly rearward to remove it.

2. Access the Interior Panels:

   • Temporarily remove the rear threshold plate, storage covers, and floor covering.
   • On the driver’s side, remove three screws securing the side trim panel but do not remove the panel to avoid damage.

3. Locate the Vehicle’s Wiring Harness:

   • Underneath the rear of the vehicle on the driver’s side, locate the wiring harness and disconnect it carefully.
   • Unseat the grommet on the vehicle’s wiring harness and push the grommet and harness into the vehicle.

4. Connect the Driver-Side T-Connector:

   • Inside the rear cargo area, locate the vehicle wiring harness behind the side trim panel.
   • Plug the T-Connector with yellow/green wires into the vehicle’s mating connector.
   • Route the remaining T-Connector wires behind the side trim panel and out of the exposed hole.

5. Install the Passenger-Side T-Connector:

   • Route the T-Connector with red/brown wires up to the driver’s side taillight pocket.
   • Plug the T-Connector into the vehicle’s mating connector and reinstall the taillight assembly.

6. Ground the White Wire:

   • Locate a suitable grounding point, such as the vehicle’s frame or crossmember.
   • Clean the area and drill a 3/32” hole.
   • Secure the white wire using the provided eyelet and screw.

   Caution:

   • Verify what is behind any surface before drilling to avoid vehicle or personal damage.

7. Connect the Power Wire:

   • Insert the T-Connector’s grey 12-pin connector into the black box module.
   • Connect the black 12-gauge wire and the two black wires from the T-Connector using the provided yellow butt connector.
   • Route the black wire through a grommet or along the vehicle frame to the battery.

8. Connect to the Battery:

   • Attach the ring terminal to the positive battery cable and secure it.
   • Connect the other end of the fuse holder to the black wire using the yellow butt connector.
   • Install the 15-amp fuse into the fuse holder.

9. Secure and Reassemble:

   • Mount the black box module on a flat surface inside the vehicle using the provided double-sided tape.
   • Secure the wiring harness with cable ties to prevent damage or rattling.
   • Reinstall the trim panels, threshold, and other items removed during installation.

10. Test the Installation:

    • Reconnect the negative battery terminal.
    • Test the T-Connector with a test light or trailer.

    Specifications:

    • Max. stop/turn light: 2 per side (4.2 amps)
    • Max. tail lights: (7.5 amps)

Safety Notes:

• Overloading circuits can cause fires. Do not exceed the towing manufacturer’s rating or the specified maximum ratings.
• Always wear safety glasses and follow all safety precautions during installation.
