Installation Instructions for Kia Sorento (2016-Current)

Installation Time:

Step-by-Step Instructions:

1. Lower and Remove Spare Tire:

   • Access the tire release under the storage compartment at the back of the vehicle.

2. Remove Driver-Side Rear Plastic Cover:

   • Using a Phillips screwdriver, remove fasteners, five (5) plastic push pins, and two (2) nuts.

3. Lower Exhaust:

   • Remove rear and side hangers, supporting the exhaust to prevent damage.
   • Apply lubricant or soapy water to the metal hanger rods and rubber isolators to ease removal.
   • Remove rubber plugs from the bottom of the frame rails on both sides.

4. Prepare Weldnuts:

   • Run M10 bolts into the existing weldnuts in the frame rails to remove debris. Then, remove the bolts.

5. Raise Hitch:

   • Raise the hitch into position.
   • Insert hardware items 1 & 2 on the driver side and items 4 & 5 on the passenger side.
   • Insert bolts through the bracket and frame for support. If the bumper locator pin interferes, trim the pin using an angle grinder.

6. Install Hardware:

   • Insert M10 bolts (items 8 & 7) through the bracket and into the frame.
   • Loosely install the conical washers and hex nuts onto the corresponding bolts.

7. Tighten Fasteners:

   • Tighten M10 CL10.9 fasteners to 40 lb-ft (54 N*m).
   • Tighten 1/2" GR5 fasteners to 75 lb-ft (102 N*m).
   • Tighten M12 GR8.8 fasteners to 68 lb-ft (92 N*m).

8. Reinstall Components:

   • Raise the exhaust back into position and reattach hangers.
   • Reinstall the driver-side rear plastic cover removed in Step 2.
   • Reinstall the spare tire and ensure it is properly seated.

Torque Specifications:

• M10 bolts: 40 lb-ft (54 N*m)
• 1/2" GR5 bolts: 75 lb-ft (102 N*m)
• M12 GR8.8 bolts: 68 lb-ft (92 N*m)

• (2) Hex Bolts, 1/2"-13 x 4.50" GR5
• (5) Conical Washers, 1/2"
• (2) Hex Nuts, 1/2"-13

Safety Notes:

• Frequently check the hitch to ensure all fasteners and the ball are securely tightened.
• If the hitch is removed, plug all holes in the trunk pan or other body panels to prevent water or exhaust fumes from entering.
• Replace any damaged hitch or ball immediately.
• Observe safety precautions when working beneath a vehicle and wear eye protection.
• Do not cut access or attachment holes with a torch.

Installation Instructions for T-Connector Adapter for Kia Sorento

• Trim Panel Remover
• 10mm Socket & Ratchet or Wrench
• Drill (3/32” Drill Bit)
• 1/4” Socket
• Wire Crimpers
• Wire Cutters
• Phillips Head Screwdriver
• Test Probe

Step-by-Step Instructions:

1. Open the Rear Tailgate:

   • Access the bolts holding the taillights in place.
   • Use a Phillips head screwdriver to remove the taillights on both the driver and passenger sides.
   • Carefully pull the taillights away from the vehicle to avoid damaging the alignment pins.

2. Disconnect the Vehicle Wiring Harness:

   • On the driver’s side, disconnect the vehicle wiring harness from the taillight socket.
   • Ensure the connectors are clean and free of dirt.

3. Install the Driver-Side T-Connector:

   • Insert the T-Connector with the yellow wire between the vehicle wiring connectors.
   • Ensure the connectors are fully inserted with locking tabs in place.

4. Route the Passenger-Side T-Connector:

   • Route the 4-flat harness and the green and red wires down through the bumper brace.
   • Continue routing behind the bumper fascia and toward the passenger side.
   • Route the green wire harness up to the passenger-side taillight and repeat Steps 2 and 3.

   Warning:

   • Avoid routing the wire near hot pipes, heat shields, fuel tanks, or other areas that may pinch or damage the wire.

5. Mount the Black Box:

   • Use the provided double-sided tape to mount the T-Connector black box to the bottom of the bumper support channel.

6. Ground the White Wire:

   • Locate a suitable grounding point near the driver-side connectors.
   • Drill a 3/32” hole and secure the white wire with the provided eyelet and screw.

   Caution:

   • Verify the area behind the surface before drilling to avoid damage or injury.

7. Connect the Power Wire:

   • Locate the black 12-gauge power wire from the T-Connector box.
   • Attach the provided black wire using the supplied yellow butt connector.
   • Route the wire through the taillight socket opening, behind the bumper, and along the vehicle frame to the engine compartment.

8. Connect to the Vehicle Battery:

   • Disconnect the vehicle’s negative (-) battery cable.
   • Remove the fuse from the yellow fuse holder.
   • Attach the fuse holder ring terminal to the positive (+) battery cable.
   • Connect the black wire to the fuse holder using the yellow butt connector.
   • Insert the 15-amp fuse into the fuse holder.

   Warning:

   • Follow all warnings and instructions printed on the vehicle battery.

9. Reconnect the Battery:

   • Reconnect the negative (-) battery cable.
   • Test the installation with a test light or trailer.

10. Secure the Wiring:

    • Use the provided cable ties to secure the harness, avoiding areas that could pinch, cut, or melt the wires.

11. Reinstall the Taillight Assemblies:

    • Reinstall the taillight assemblies and any items removed during installation, ensuring no wires are pinched or damaged.

Specifications:

• Max. stop/turn light: 2 per side (4.2 amps)
• Max. tail lights: 7.5 amps
