Tekonsha manufactures a wider range of different products for hooking up trailer lights to your Car Truck or SUV. T-One connectors work great with boat trailer wiring and utility trailer wiring. Typically those trailers will use the standard 4 flat plug which is what our T One connectors offer. If you have an RV Fifth Wheel or any other large type of trailer you will us a 7 pin trailer plug to control your electric trailer brakes. Tekonsha offers 7 pin trailer connector as well. Simply do a search above to see if there is a 7 wire trailer wiring available for hooking up your 7 way. If there is not you can use part number 85343 trailer wiring adapter to convert any 4-Flat into a 7-Way. In addition you will use part number 20506 which will include the rest of wiring needed for electric brake controls. Installation Instructions for T-One® T-Connector for Subaru Legacy
Part Numbers:

- Trim Panel Remover
- 10mm Socket & Ratchet or Wrench
- Drill (3/32” Drill Bit)
- 1/4” Socket
- Wire Crimpers
- Wire Cutters
- Phillips Head Screwdriver
- Test Probe
Step-by-Step Instructions:

Open the Tailgate:
- Use a Phillips head screwdriver to carefully remove the trim covers to expose the taillight fasteners.
- Using a 10mm socket, remove the taillight fasteners and carefully pull the taillight away from the vehicle, being cautious not to damage the alignment pins.
- Set the taillights aside.

Route the Driver-Side T-Connector:
- Route the harness containing the yellow wire underneath the vehicle and up through the opening between the vehicle bumper and body to the driver’s side taillight pocket.
-
Mount the T-One® Black Box:
- Locate a flat surface in an out-of-the-way place on the driver’s side.
- Mount the black converter box using the provided double-sided tape.
Warning: Ensure the module is mounted with the epoxy side pointed towards the ground to prevent water buildup.

Ground the White Wire:
- Locate a suitable grounding point near the connector, such as the vehicle’s frame or crossmember.
- Clean the area of dirt and rustproofing.
- Drill a 3/32” hole and secure the white wire using the provided eyelet and screw.
Caution: Verify the area behind any surface before drilling to avoid damage or injury.

Connect the Driver-Side T-Connector:
- Separate the vehicle’s wiring connectors on the driver’s side, ensuring not to break the locking tabs.
- Insert the T-One® Connector end with the yellow and brown wires between the vehicle wiring connectors and lock into place.
- Ensure all connector surfaces are clean and free of dirt.

Route the Passenger-Side T-Connector:
- Route the connector containing the green wire up through the opening on the passenger side.
- Avoid routing near hot pipes, heat shields, or areas that may pinch or damage the wire.

Connect the Passenger-Side T-Connector:
- Separate the vehicle’s wiring connectors on the passenger side, ensuring not to break the locking tabs.
- Insert the T-One® Connector end with the green and red wires between the vehicle wiring connectors and lock into place.

Route the Power Wire:
- Locate the black 12-gauge power wire from the T-One® T-Connector box on the driver’s side.
- Attach the provided black wire and route it along the exterior frame or existing wiring to the engine compartment, avoiding hot pipes, heat shields, and other areas that may pinch or damage the wire.

Connect to the Vehicle Battery:
- Disconnect the vehicle’s Negative (-) battery cable.
- Remove the fuse from the yellow fuse holder (provided).
- Attach the ring terminal to the Positive (+) battery cable and secure it.
- Connect the other end of the fuse holder to the black wire using the provided yellow butt connector.
Warning: Follow all warnings printed on the tow vehicle’s battery.

Reconnect the Battery and Test:
- Reconnect the Negative (-) battery cable.
- Insert the 15-amp fuse into the fuse holder.
- Test the installation using a test light or trailer.
- Reset the vehicle’s electrical system by temporarily removing the key from the ignition.

Secure the Harness:
- Use the provided cable ties to secure the T-One® Connector harness, avoiding areas that may pinch, cut, or melt the wire.

Reinstall the Taillights:
- Reinstall the taillight assemblies and other items removed during installation.
- Ensure no wires are pinched or damaged.
