Installation Instructions for Tongue Jacks
General Installation Notes:
- Ensure there is no interference from the tow vehicle, tongue, ground, or other mounted accessories while stationary or in motion.
- Verify proper clearance in all positions, including handle swing and swivel positions, before and after installation.
Tools Required:
- Torque wrench
- Ratchet set
Step-by-Step Instructions:
Bolt-On Rack Jack Installation:
- Place the gear housing on the tongue and insert the supplied bolts into the holes corresponding to the tongue width.
- Position the mounting bracket below the tongue with the flat surface against it.
- Secure with locknuts, and torque to 25 ft-lbs.
Bolt-On Mounting Bracket Instructions:
- Ensure the correct mounting hole pattern for your tongue size. The gap between the mounting bolts and the tongue should not exceed 1/16".
- Place the jack against the tongue and position the mounting straps on the opposite side of the tongue.
- Insert four bolts through the mounting bracket and straps. The upper bolts should rest on the tongue top, and the lower bolts should be less than 1/16" from the bottom.
- Secure with locknuts, and torque to 25 ft-lbs.
Snap Ring/Bolt-Through Instructions:
- Snap Ring Models: Place the jack bracket over the mount and fully seat the snap ring into the groove.
- Bolt-Through Models: Insert the jack bracket into the recessed opening on the mount. Tighten the locknut until there is minimal movement in the bushing.
A-Plate Mounting Instructions (Bolt-On or Weld-On):
- All welding must be performed by an AWS-certified welder.
- Align the jack and foot with the coupler before welding using a 3/16" fillet weld.
- Use three 3/8"-16 grade-5 bolts with washers for bolt-on applications and torque to 15-20 ft-lbs.
- Weld the recommended support plate to the bottom of the trailer frame with a 3/16" fillet weld if required.
Direct-Mount Instructions:
- Position the jack at the desired location and weld 1" at two points on both sides using a 3/16" fillet weld.
Maintenance:
- Lubricate internal gearing and bushings with automotive grease annually.
- Apply lightweight oil to all moving components such as handles and screw stems.
- Flush the jack assembly with fresh water in marine environments and apply fresh lubricant.
Safety Notes:
- Fully retract and rotate the jack before towing.
- Do not exceed the rated capacity of the jack, footplate, or caster wheel.
- Avoid side forces, which may cause jack failure.
- Replace damaged or worn parts before use.
- Do not adjust the drop foot or leg while under load.
