Installation Instructions for KR Series Work Winches
Part Numbers:
- KR1000
- KR1500
Tools Required:
- Wrench (provided with the product)
Step-by-Step Instructions:
Handle Attachment and Winch Mounting:
- Insert the handle onto the hexagon end of the input shaft. Align screw holes with drive shaft indents and tighten the set screws using the provided wrench.
- Note: Do not remove or adjust any hardware on the input shaft except for the handle, as this is critical to the braking system.
- Mount the winch onto a structure capable of supporting at least three times the load. Ensure the mounting surface equals or exceeds the winch frame footprint.
- Use three grade-5 bolts (3/8” diameter), flat washers, and locknuts. Torque to 30 ft-lbs.
- Note: Use the outermost slots at the end opposite the line pull direction. If using the center slot, place a large flat washer for stability.
Cable Attachment to Drum:
- Feed the cable over the top of the drum and through the drum's side slot. Loop the cable through one side of the clamp and back into the other side.
- Tighten the clamp nut to hold the cable securely (approximately 20–30 in-lbs). Replace the clamp each time the cable is replaced.
- Ensure the cable pulls straight off the winch without angling to avoid rubbing against drum sides. Neatly wrap the cable to prevent kinking or fraying.
Operation:
- To Pull Cable In or Raise Load:
- Turn the handle clockwise as per the "Cable In/Cable Out" decal.
- Ensure a loud clicking sound from the ratchet while lifting.
- To Let Cable Out or Lower Load:
- Turn the handle counterclockwise. No clicking will be heard due to the brake system activation.
Maintenance:
- Apply automotive grease to gear teeth and the drum bearing's outer diameter.
- Lubricate ratchet pawl pivot, bushings, and pinion threads with engine oil.
- Inspect brake friction disks. Replace if worn below 1/16", cracked, or broken.
- Check for proper ratchet operation during each use. Replace damaged components immediately if the ratchet sound is absent.
- Ensure fasteners are securely tightened before every use.
- Warning: Do not oil or grease the brake mechanism.
Safety Notes:
- Never exceed the winch's rated capacity (marked on the frame).
- Maintain at least three complete wraps of cable or layers of strap on the drum.
- Inspect cables and attachments before each use; replace if damaged.
- Always hear a loud clicking from the ratchet when lifting the load.
- Do not leave the winch unattended while supporting a load.
