Installation Instructions for Pro Series 20K Fifth Wheel Hitch
Part Numbers:
- 30119 (Combines 30118 and 30727)
Tools Required:
- Torque Wrench
- 3/4" Socket and Wrench
- 7/8" Socket and Wrench
- 5/8" Socket and Wrench
- Tape Measure
- Marking Pencil
- Grease or Spray Lithium Lubricant
Step-by-Step Instructions:
Step 1: Verify Vehicle and Trailer Compatibility
- Ensure the Gross Trailer Weight (GTW) does not exceed 20,000 lbs.
- Verify the kingpin weight is between 15-25% of the trailer weight, with a maximum pin weight of 5,000 lbs.
- Maintain a minimum clearance of 6 inches between the trailer and truck bed rails during towing.
Step 2: Install Base Rails and Mounting Brackets
-
Positioning the Base Rails:
- Place the base rails across the truck bed as specified in the mounting rail kit instructions (sold separately).
- Ensure that the rails are spaced 22 inches apart, center-to-center, and aligned properly.
- Check diagonal measurements to confirm alignment (should not differ by more than 1/8 inch).
-
Install the Mounting Brackets:
- Secure the mounting brackets to the truck frame using the hardware provided in the rail kit.
- Insert spacers under the base rails as needed to fill any gaps caused by truck bed corrugations.
-
Torque the Bolts:
- Torque all fasteners to the specifications provided in the mounting kit (usually 75 lb.-ft. for 1/2" bolts).
Step 3: Assemble the Fifth Wheel Legs and Head
-
Attach the Legs to the Base Rails:
- Position the fifth wheel legs in the base rail slots. Secure them using pull pins and spring retaining clips.
-
Mount the Hitch Head:
- Place the hitch head onto the legs and align the bolt holes.
- Use the provided 5/8" bolts, lock washers, and nuts to attach the hitch head to the legs.
- Torque all bolts to 110 lb.-ft. using a torque wrench.
-
Adjust Hitch Height:
- Set the height of the hitch to match the trailer’s kingpin height. Adjustments can be made using the leg mounting holes, which provide multiple height settings between 13 and 17 inches.
Step 4: Hitching Procedure
- Block the trailer wheels on both sides.
- Lower the trailer's kingpin so it is aligned with the hitch skid plate (within 1 inch).
- Place the hitch in the Ready-to-Hitch Position:
- Open the locking jaws by pulling the handle fully outward until it clicks into place.
- Ensure the locking indicator is in the open position.
- Slowly back the truck so the kingpin slides into the hitch funnel.
- The locking jaws will automatically close around the kingpin, and the handle will return to the locked position.
- Verify that the kingpin is fully engaged in the jaws with no gap visible between the kingpin and the hitch skid plate.
- Perform a pull test:
- Apply trailer brakes and gently try to pull the truck forward to ensure the hitch is securely locked.
Step 5: Unhitching Procedure
- Block the trailer wheels and ensure the truck is in park with the emergency brake engaged.
- Lower the trailer landing gear until it supports the trailer weight.
- Disconnect the power and breakaway switch cables.
- Pull the handle fully outward to open the jaws and release the kingpin.
- Slowly drive the truck forward to separate from the trailer.
Maintenance Schedule:
- Before Each Use:
- Inspect all bolts, pins, and clips for damage or wear.
- Apply grease or spray lubricant to the skid plate and locking jaws.
- Annually or as Needed:
- Inspect the legs, base rails, and mounting brackets for cracks, rust, or damage.
- Re-torque all bolts to their original specifications.
Hardware List:
- (2x) Fifth Wheel Legs
- (1x) Fifth Wheel Hitch Head
- (4x) Pull Pins

- Additional mounting hardware from the rail kit (sold separately)
Safety Notes:
- WARNING: Always block trailer wheels and ensure the landing gear is on firm ground before hitching or unhitching.
- Never exceed the Gross Trailer Weight (GTW) or Kingpin Weight rating.
- Regularly inspect all hitch components to ensure safe towing.
- Avoid placing any part of your body between the truck and trailer unless all safety precautions are followed.
Specifications:
- Gross Trailer Weight (GTW): 20,000 lbs
- Maximum Kingpin Weight: 5,000 lbs
