Installation Instructions for Subaru Legacy Sedan/Wagon and Subaru Outback Sedan/Wagon
(Excluding Sport Models)

• Wrenches: 3/4", 14mm, 17mm
• Drill Bits: None

Wiring Access Location:

• PC1, PC2

Step-by-Step Instructions:

1. Lower the Exhaust:

   • Remove the four muffler hangers (two per side) to allow the exhaust to hang down away from the frame.

2. Remove Forward Bracket Bolts:

   • On wagon models, remove the forwardmost bolt (one per side) from the bracket bolted to the underside of the frame at the back of the vehicle.
   • For sedan and wagon models, remove the plastic plugs covering the weld nuts in the vehicle frame.

3. Position the Hitch:

   • Raise the hitch into position and loosely install the tow hook fasteners as shown in Figure 1.

4. Install Spacer Blocks:

   • Depending on the vehicle model, block locations will vary.
   • Use the appropriate block combination to fill the gaps between the hitch brackets and the vehicle frame (refer to Figure 2).

5. Secure Fasteners:

   • Tighten 1/2"-13 GR5 fasteners to 75 lb-ft (102 N·m).
   • Tighten M10 CL8.8 fasteners to 38 lb-ft (52 N·m).

6. Reinstall Muffler Hangers:

   • Reattach the four muffler hangers.

• (4) Large Spacer Blocks
• (7) Small Spacer Blocks
• (3) 1/2"-13 x 1-3/4” GR5 Carriage Bolts
• (6) 1/2"-13 Hex Nuts
• (2) 3/8” Conical Washers
• (5) 1/2” Conical Washers
• (4) M10 x 1.25 x 40mm Hex Bolts

Safety Notes:

• Check the hitch frequently to ensure all fasteners and the ball are properly tightened.
• If the hitch is removed, plug all holes in the trunk pan or other body panels to prevent water and exhaust fumes from entering.
• Replace any damaged hitch or ball immediately.
• Follow all safety precautions when working beneath the vehicle, and wear eye protection.
• Do not cut access or attachment holes with a torch.
