Installation Instructions for Subaru Outback (Excluding Sport Models)
Part Numbers:

- 10mm Socket

- Phillips-Head Screwdriver
- Aviation Shears
- Masking Tape
- Tape Measure

Step-by-Step Instructions:

Remove the Tail Lights:
- Remove the plastic push fasteners using a flat-head screwdriver and Phillips-head screwdriver.
- Remove the (2) screws securing each tail light with a 10mm socket.
- Pull the tail lights rearward and disconnect the wiring connectors to remove the lenses.

Detach the Rear Bumper Cover:
- Remove the (3) push fasteners in the wheel wells on each side using a screwdriver.
- If mud flaps are present, remove the (3) screws holding each mud flap.
- Remove the (7) push fasteners along the edge of the bumper cover using a flat-head screwdriver.
- Starting from one side, gently pull the bumper cover away from the vehicle.

Remove the Bumper Beam:
- Remove the foam from the bumper beam to access the bolts.
- Using a 14mm socket, remove the (8) bumper beam bolts.
- Carefully remove the bumper beam and set it aside.

Prepare for Hitch Installation:
- Fold the center bumper cover mounting tab flat against the rear bulkhead of the vehicle.

Install the Hitch:
- Raise the hitch and bumper beam back into position over the existing studs.
- Center the hitch and loosely reinstall the 10mm flange nuts removed earlier.

Torque Fasteners:
- Torque all 10mm fasteners to 48 lb-ft using a torque wrench.

Reinstall the Bumper Beam Foam:
- If necessary, trim the bumper cover as per the Bumper Cover Trim Diagram:
- Trim dimensions: 4 inches wide x 2 inches tall.
- Use aviation shears for clean cuts.
- If necessary, trim the bumper cover as per the Bumper Cover Trim Diagram:

Reinstall the Bumper Cover and Tail Lights:
- Reattach the bumper cover, mud flaps (if applicable), and tail lights.
- Reconnect the tail light wiring connectors.
Hardware List:
- Re-use Existing Vehicle Hardware
Safety Notes:
- Periodically check this receiver hitch to ensure all fasteners are tight and structural components are sound.
- Warning: Do not exceed the vehicle manufacturer’s recommended towing capacity.
