Installation Instructions for Subaru Impreza Sedan (2012-Current, Excludes WRX and STi)

Step-by-Step Instructions:

Lower muffler:
- Use an exhaust hanger removal tool or pry bar to remove 3-5 rubber hangers (varies by model year).
- Spray lubricant or soapy water on hangers for easier removal.
- Support the exhaust using a ratchet strap or bungee cord before removing hangers.

Remove heat shield:
- Use a 10 mm socket to remove 4 screws securing the heat shield to the vehicle.
- Shield will be trimmed and reinstalled later.

Remove rubber plugs:
- Use a flat screwdriver to remove 3 rubber plugs from the frame's forward holes.

Trim heat shield:
- Use metal shears to trim the heat shield as shown.

Reinstall heat shield:
- Use 3 of the previously removed screws to reattach the trimmed heat shield.

Install fasteners:
- Feed the pull wire through the second attachment hole and out of the forward access hole.
- Attach a 7/16” carriage bolt and ¼” thick spacer block to the pull wire and pull fasteners into position.
- Repeat for the middle attachment on both sides.

Install forward fasteners:
- Use the reverse fish wire method to attach a 7/16” carriage bolt and ¼” thick spacer block.
- Pull fasteners into position on both sides.

Attach spacer blocks:
- Tape 1/8” thick spacer blocks to the top of the hitch brackets at the forward-most attachment point (1 per side).

Install hitch:
- Raise the hitch into position, ensuring fasteners remain in place.
- Loosely attach 7/16” conical toothed washers and 7/16-14 hex nuts to the carriage bolts (6 places).
- Adjust the hitch if necessary for clearance between the hitch and muffler.
- Torque all fasteners to 50 lb-ft (68 N*m).

Raise muffler:
- Reattach all rubber hangers removed earlier.
