Installation Instructions for 2011-Current BMW X3 and X4
Part Numbers:

- Approximately 45 minutes for professional installers.
Tools Required:
- Ratchet Torque Wrench
- Safety Glasses
- Sockets: 8mm, 10mm, 13mm, 18mm, 19mm
- Plastic Rivet Gun
- Drill with 1/8” Drill Bit
- Utility Knife
- Flat Head Screwdriver
- Marker
- Silicone Sealant
- Plastic Trim Tools

Step-by-Step Instructions:

Remove Taillights:
- Open the tailgate.
- Remove the plastic cover near each taillight by removing one (1) plastic fastener with a flat screwdriver.
- For X3 models, use a socket to remove two (2) hex nuts holding the taillight. For X4 models and 2018-current X3 models, remove the interior panel to access bolts and remove them.
- Gently pull the taillights rearward and disconnect the wiring.

Remove Underbody Panel (X3 Only):
- Using 8mm and 10mm deep sockets, remove screws and hex nuts from the underbody panel and set aside.

Remove Rear Fascia:
- Remove screws near the taillight area, behind the reflector, and along the bottom edges using an 8mm socket.
- Drill out the plastic rivets holding the wheel well trim and remove screws behind it.
- Use plastic trim tools to gently remove the fascia, starting at the edges near the wheel wells.
- Disconnect the wiring harness and set the fascia aside.

Remove Bumper Beam:
- For X3 models, disconnect the sensor wiring and rivets attached to the bumper beam.
- Use an 18mm deep well socket with a 6” extension to remove four (4) hex flange nuts holding the bumper beam to the end panel.
- Remove foam gasket and apply silicone sealant to the mounting surfaces if damaged.

Install Hitch and Reattach Bumper Beam:
- Place the foam gasket between the hitch and aluminum bumper beam.
- Apply blue thread locker to all studs and align the hitch and bumper beam with the studs on the vehicle end panel.
- Loosely reinstall the existing M12 flange nuts and reattach the exhaust hangers.

Tighten Fasteners:
- Torque all M12 hex flange nuts to 68 Lb.-Ft. (92 N*M).
- Torque all exhaust hanger flange nuts to 25 Lb.-Ft. (34 N*M).

Reinstall Fascia:
- Reinstall the fascia, taillights, and interior panels removed in previous steps.
- Snap wheel well trim into position and install the provided plastic rivets.

Trim Underbody Panel (if applicable):
- Use a utility knife to cut a notch in the underbody panel as needed and reinstall it with existing hardware.

- (2) M12x1.75x100mm Bolts (CL10.9)
- (2) Flat Washers (7/16”)
- (2) Flange Locknuts (M12x1.75, CL10)

- Near the rear of the vehicle, behind the bumper, or as indicated for vehicle-specific configurations.
Tools Required:
- Drill with a 3/32" drill bit.
- Phillips head #2 screwdriver.
- Wire cutters, wire strippers/crimpers.
- Tester or volt meter.
- Socket and ratchet set.
- Double-sided tape (provided).
Step-by-Step Instructions:
Installation of the Module:

Determine the mounting location for the module.
- Use the provided double-sided tape to secure the module.
- Ensure the epoxy side of the module faces downward to prevent water buildup.

Connect the module’s black wire to a 12-gauge (or larger) power wire using a yellow butt connector.

Locate a suitable grounding point near the module:
- Drill a 3/32" hole if necessary and secure the white wire using the provided eyelet and self-tapping screw.
